Is this thing on?

Hey, all, it’s been a while. I don’t know about you, but from where I’m sitting it feels like the world has been getting scarier and scarier since the last time I posted, waxing poetic about potatoes.

It feels like everything is under attack, and priorities are going backwards. Typically, I’m a “doer”, by nature, and when things feel hard or scary, I look for what I can DO about it. That’s what makes this even harder, because looking around, there is so much happening. So many bad things from so many directions, it’s hard to find something to DO about any of it. What can even be done against the crushing weight of EVERYTHING?

Now, I’m no expert, but I do listen to experts. Real ones. Who cite peer reviewed studies and evidence. What a lot of those folks are saying is that if you’re feeling powerless, look for one or two small ways to involve yourself. Base that on your own interests and your own strengths.

When I look inward, and look around at my own life two things really stick out. I’m a registered nurse, and one of my favorite parts of my job is teaching people things. Almost daily, I’m teaching people how their bodies work, how to take care of themselves, and how to keep their bodies healthy in a way that works best for them.

I’m also, as demonstrated by the existence of this blog, a gardener. I love gardening and learning about gardening, and sharing gardening with others. I’ve been growing veggies for about 25 years at this point, in a variety of places, climates, and spaces.

So this is what I’m going to do. I’m going to revive this blog and talk about growing food, because I love nothing more than teaching and sharing knowledge with people. I’m a big believer in food justice and health literacy, and I want to put that out there for more people.

So come along if you’re interested in learning more about those things, whether for yourself or for your community. I’m happy you’re here.
